Restructuring of the Kenya Ports Authority
This was part of the Kenya Government divesture of its state corporations as part of the policy recommended by the World Bank and IMF on reforms of the public sector. CDC was subcontracted by CPCS Transcom of Canada in this assignment.
The assignment involved a team of more than 30 consultants. The consultants identified and recommended options for the privatization of core activities for the port. A tariff review was also conducted, including a new regulatory regime and prepared the necessary corporate plan. Our consultants were specifically involved in undertaking the following activities:
- Review the financial situation and noted various weaknesses and recommended on how they could be addressed.
- Reviewed and analyzed the accounting systems with the necessary recommendation on their improvement.
- Proposed appropriate financial management plans to be implemented so as to improve the ports management systems.
- Based on these recommendations our firm was subsequently appointed to review and propose on improvements to the inventory control systems.
