Consultancy Services for Development of business model for KENTRADE
The objective of this consultancy is to assist Kenya Trade Network Agency (KENTRADE) develop/design a business model, business plan and business operations manual to enable it run the Kenya National Electronic Single Window System (KNESWS) sustainably. Kentrade was established through Legal Notice No. 6 of 28th January 2011 with the principal objective to establish and manage a National Electronic Single Window System and to facilitate trade. The National Electronic Single Window System is to serve as a single entry point for parties involved in trade and transport to lodge documents electronically, for processing and approval; and make payments electronically for fees, levies, duties and taxes due to the Government on goods imported or exported. The assignment involved the following activities:
- Identify the various business models for operating single window system
- Develop a SWOT analysis related to each of the business models
- Site visits to review the varying business models and determine the operational environment
- Identify the various business strategies used for the operation of the various single window systems
- Develop the SWOT analysis for each business strategy
- Stakeholders consultation to discuss on the various business models so as to develop consensus on the preferred model
- Stakeholders meeting to discuss and agree on the preferred business model
- Develop appropriate business plans to facilitate implementation of the business model:
- Analyse the market target for the KENTRADE over the next five years period
- Develop estimates of the volume of the products and services to be provided by KENTRADE over the next five years
- Estimate and develop assumptions for the operational costs for operating the business model
- Agree with the stakeholders on major financial modelling assumptions like the inflation rates, the pricing adjustment factors, the financing costs, etc.
- Undertake a SWOT analysis
- Agree with the client on sources of financing for the business plan
- Undertake financial analysis, financial projections covering a period of five years, and sensitivity analysis
- Develop appropriate business plans
