John Nguri
John has over 33 years professional experience as a financial and economics consultant where he has directed and managed large projects in both public and private sector, financed by the World Bank, IFAD, SNV, BTC, USAID and other donor agencies. In particular he has extensive experience in project supervision, monitoring and evaluation. Key projects undertaken include organization review for the Higher Education Loans Board; supervision mission for the IFAD funded projects in Kenya, Zambia and the State of Eritrea; Financial and operational review for the Nairobi City Council (World Bank); development of management models and financial systems for community based water projects (BTC); training on long format audit methodology for Controller and Auditor General in Kenya (IFAD); project value for money audit (SNV); restructuring of the tea sector in Kenya and Kenya Tea Development Authority in particular (World Bank); restructuring and settlement of cross debt and other indebtedness in Kenya (World Bank); restructuring of Kenya Port Authority and Port of Free Town in Sierra Leone (World Bank); concessioning of the Container Terminal in Tanzania Harbours Authority (World Bank) and privatization strategy for the Kenya Railways Corporation (World Bank).
John’s experience is widespread in Africa and more particularly in the East, Central and Southern African regions. He has undertaken projects in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Zambia, South Africa, State of Eritrea and Sierra Leone in West Africa.
John holds a Masters of Arts in Economics, University of Nairobi; B.Com (Accounting Option), First Class Honors, University of Nairobi; and is currently undertaking a parallel PhD program in Finance in the same university. He is a Certified Public Accountant, a Certified Public Secretary, and a member of Kenya Institute of Management. Additionally, he has attended various workshops on Privatisation, Regulatory Reform and Corporate Governance – a 3 weeks workshop offered by Harvard Institute of International Development; and a one week Privatization workshop in Johannesburg South Africa on privatization experience and problems in Africa. Other courses include Leadership, selling and report writing organized by Deloitte and Touché.
